The Different Strokes or Challenges
According to Dr. Kiran a young veterinary science doctor, working for Duck-Unit of Centre for Poultry Development Organization and Training Institute, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru (CPDO-TI) as Farm Manager, the challenges of VET medicos is entirely different from human doctors. For instance Veterinary Anatomy and Histology student should learn anatomy of different species like Cattle, Horse, Sheep, Goats, Dogs, Pig and Birds (most complicated anatomy) which according him is a tough task. Mastering physiology of different species is also a tough ask according to Dr. Kiran.
The Career Roles
In past decade the career opportunities for VET-Science graduates and post graduates has changed. The usual roles of Group-‘A’ cadre officers recruited by State Governments, Employments in Milk federations like K.M.F, Amul etc, Veterinary practitioners who practice in private and veterinary care takers of National parks are well known careers. In addition the new roles are with pharmacology corporate firms who experiment on animals for innovating new drugs, integrated poultry corporations (like— Venkateswara Group, Pune, Suguna Poultry Farms Ltd, Coimbatore, and Pioneer Poultry Group, Coimbatore, Godrej Agrovet Ltd, Mumbai, Sky Lark groups, in Northern India) who are constantly in pursuit of developing nutritious food and vaccinations. Opportunities for post graduates in countries like Canada, Newzealand and Denmark is also lucrative one. According to Dr. Kiran, in abroad Veterinary Sciences earns most commendable positions.

Leather based Fashion Technology course is not taboo
‘Digital’
India and ‘Skilled’ India are the two terms making lot of rounds in academics
and finishing schools arena in recent past. After, our Prime Minister shared
his vision to make India Human Resource hub, on par with China’s Manufacturing hub;
skill training institutes are gaining lot of impetus. One such Institute was
envisioned by Govt. of Karnataka way back in 1983 and has gained momentum in
past one year or so. Government of Karnataka has allocated lush green campus
spread across 10 acres for this school. The Institute is named as Karnataka
Institute of Leather Technology-K.I.L.T, affiliated to Directorate of
Technical Education, approved by AICTE, situated in Ullal Upanagar, near
Bangalore university campus.
According
to Principal of the institute, Prof .V. Narasimhamurthy, The curriculum is
revamped to meet Industry requirements and for the first time in India, Central
Leather Research Institute and Leather Authority, Govt. of India has approved this
course named Leather & Fashion technology. Professor opines that a huge
demand for trained professionals in Leather goods manufacturing in Kanpur,
Uttar Pradesh and in Tamil Nadu is bringing many aspirants to Bengaluru for
getting trained. Somehow He feels students of Karnataka still lack awareness about
making a career in this domain.
Does
convincing you for aesthetic looks of leather bags or footwear a hurricane
task? Then you are right person to be part of Leather Fashion Studios here and
try your hands in designing leather goods for generation next. The course is
similar to any other three years Diploma given after 10th Standard
by Directorate of Technical Education. Various specializations offered are Leather
and Fashion Technology, one year Post graduation course in Leather Processing
Technology, Footwear technology, Leather goods and garment technology. The
number of seats for any course is 45. Even students who have failed to succeed
in SSLC (X standard) can get trained in few specialized skill training courses
like: Footwear designs, Leather goods & Garments design, Quality Control,
Leather Testing and merchandizing & marketing. Interestingly, The Director
of K. I. L. T, has already sent proposal for approval to AICTE for a Bachelor
of Engineering/Technology course from next academic year and is confidant of
getting the nod.
According
to the Principal of the Institute, India is one of those countries which has
abundant raw material in form of animal skin for these Leather products and
employment opportunities are bound to increase as demand for leather products
across the globe is more and Indian Leather goods manufacturers are in constant
need to innovate and develop new designs. All these factors have a cumulating
effect that creates huge demand for SKILLED-employees, which current Indian
leather industry is not obtaining in required number.
