Clean Cricket & Clean Elections Are They Feasible?

We Indians witnessed Clean India aka 'Swach Bharat' Movement, It was followed by 'Clean Economy Movement called demonetization now Supreme Court has taken a step to Clean Indian Cricket from filthy money that is playing havoc inside and outside the cricketing grounds. The welcome step taken by Supreme Court to dismiss Anurag Thakur, President, Board of Cricket Council in India -B.C.C.I. for misleading the court regarding implementation of Lodha Committee recommendations as triggred debates and discussions in cricket crazy country. The other News of yesterday that has caught attention of various citizens is supreme court order that declares "Seeking Votes based on Religion, Language and Caste" as corrupt practice.
How far these two decisions of supreme court will clean cricket and politics is issue of debate. While cleaning cricket that too I.P.L cricket is an hurricane task as people have accepted and acknowledged that Betting in Race courses is overtaken by Betting in Cricket grounds and Match fixing and spot fixing in I.P.L has tainted this game to a large extent.

Cricket is Gamblers' Darling Why?

Cricket was called Gentleman's Game as it involved artistic display of talent rather than brute force exhibition of muscle power. That too Test Cricket is a game which tests patience, talent and temperament rather than strength required by Athletes, Footballers or Boxers. Slowly Test cricket gave way to limited overs one-day cricket games and these matches were hosted in Flood Lights with color dresses! Thus glamour became part of cricket and Television telecast rights of these one day matches gained lot of demand as it proved to be lucrative for Media houses.
The very nature of limited over cricket which is played for 50 overs per side and a break between each over helped Advertisers to showcase their products for nearly 6 hours a day which is an impossible task in any other game or sport. Thus Cricket stadiums and T.V telecast are today flooded with advertisements. Not even the Jerseys, Bats, Caps and Helmets of players are spared!
Further fun and interest among spectators was created with T-20 format of game, which reduced the number of overs to 20 per side from 50 overs! T-20 popularized the cricket to maximum extent and a name called Lalit Modii, introduced Indian Premier League-IPL with colorful format similar to European Leagues for Football. From then I.P.L has become most glamorous event that happens in Indian soil, obviously Glamour brings in Lot of Entertainment which in turn brings in huge amount of money to the game.
In nutshell the nature of I.P.L Cricket with:

  • Limited Overs of 20 per side
  • Cheer leaders
  • Foreign players
  • Celebrities as Ambassdors
  • Strategic Timeouts and
  • colorful TV telecasts

and many other factors has drawn lot of money to the game and Indian Cricketing board -B.C.C.I ultimately the game Gamblers paradise, where every ball bowled, every run scored, every wicket taken, every no ball, wide ball bowled, every injury caused carries a betting amount and thus alleged involvement of team managements and players in the betting happening outside ground. Today majority of Indians agree Race Course which is a legalized gambling sport draws less currency compared to I.P.L! So, Lodha Committee has demanded B.C.C.i to legalize betting/gambling in I.P.L!
This is how a Gentleman game played in white Trousers & T-Shirts has turned out to be Money making business in Colorful dress.
Next let us turn our attention to Elections in India and supreme court orders that "NO CASTE, RELIGION, LANGUAGE" appeasement in Election campaign.

Elections Comes Second to Cricket in Popularity

India is biggest democracy and Elections and Election Coverage has wide viewership in India. Election brings in lot of Gossips, Melodrama, mud-slinging, rhetoric speech, blame game and of course all types of political tricks and fun. Indian media covers elections extensively and We have thousands of 24/7 News channels in country today. But most importantly Politics in India has been never free from Caste, Religion, Money, and Regionalism. In addition to these four attributes, the party manifesto about development is considered as extra player. From selecting the candidate to poll surveys Caste & Religion +Money plays decisive factor in determining the winner and loser.
when reality is so horrifying, supreme court order has come as panacea to all those who seek Secular and Development based exercise of  individuals franchise.

Finally We should hope that these two supreme court verdicts will help us to Clean Cricket and Politics in India, which are the two mega Entertainers for the public.
